Shooting “Bring It On Down”

UCLA Short film Bring It On Down

Left to Right: Dani Jae, Isa Espy, Charlie Wang, Kelley Frisby, Jason Ward, Dan Belzer

Today was the first of what I hope will be many great experiences at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television: I shot my first original short film without supervision. That isn’t to say I didn’t have help, however. I owe a great deal to the efforts of Charlie Wang, my Director of Photography; Thientam Nguyen, my Assistant Director, Kelley Frisby, my Art Director, Nerris Nassiri, my Score Composer, as well as my incomparably talented cast: Isa Espy, Dani Jae and Dan Belzer. But with all the thanks out of the way, I bet you’re wondering: what was the experience like? Head on past the jump for the full(ish) story.

These are from a new short I wrote and directed. Included in my amazing cast and crew were:

Thientam Nguyen, Assistant Director
Charlie Wang, Director of Photography
Kelley Frisby, Art Director
Dan Belzer, “The Father”
Dani Jae, “The Mother”
Isa Espy, “The Girl”

And special thanks to Sam Icklow for making sure we had access to the sets and equipment we needed to make this happen.

Waiting ’til

I’ve been waiting ‘til the moment
Waiting ‘til the day
My heart would have the courage
To express the words I long to say

Time itself’s been waiting ‘til
The day when I could know
How to let you know just how I feel
The way I love you so

All my life’s been waiting ‘til
A hand like yours would touch my face
A hand that’s seen the pain of work
Yet whose touch to me is lace

Eternity’s been waiting ‘til
The day like this would come
The day I’ve stopped from looking elsewhere
Because only your radiance is the one

All the passion that’s inside me
All the love I’ve held for you
Is yours to claim, my loving darling
When you wish to claim it, I’ll be waiting ‘til
